Is Oldsmar Right For You?
The city of Oldsmar, Florida is located on the Eastern edge of Pinellas County connecting to Hillsborough County's Northern end. Oldsmar is a very small town that used to be voted one of the best places to live as a sleepy little town of Florida. What was once a town with lots of swamp land, trees and small businesses is now a heavily populated and very crowded city.
Ten years ago when new construction was just beginning, plans for this town were for interesting shops, unique restaurants, art galleries, historic homes, and entertaining events. The streets would be landscaped with oak trees and tropical foliage and the sidewalks would be styled for strolling. Don't get me wrong, it is a beautiful city, but all the small town charm is lost in the past ten years. Two-lane roads turned to six, several new roads appeared to form out of nowhere, huge strip malls went up, and hundreds of new homes were built. The town is now magnificently built up and real estate is booming with such a high demand.
Oldsmar has had many name changes in it's lifetime. The name was originally R.E. Olds-On-The-Bay in 1913 when Ransom Eli Olds decided to purchase it. That name later changed to Oldsmar, then in 1927 it was changed to Tampa Shores, and then in 1937 the name was changed back to Oldsmar. Many of the older streets in Oldsmar were named by Ransom Eli Olds. He named them after people he knew and places he liked.
Dining
Oldsmar is a small town with alot of "small town" dining. Our favorite restaurants are Jack Willie's and Georgia Boy's Bar-B-Que for casual dinner and Alberto's Italian Grill for alittle more formal evening out. All the locals go to Eve's family Restaurant for a hearty home-cooked breakfast on the weekends. We all hit the Starbucks and Duncan Donuts during the week for a quick breakfast or just coffee.
